Kathy Petrino is an enthusiastic traveler who not only has a strong desire to see as much of the world as possible, but who, thankfully, loves to write about everything she sees as a way to help others enjoy travel as much as she does, without the downside. Kathy Petrino believes sharing knowledge keeps travel destinations afloat and appealing to visit repeatedly. That is when she writes a lot about one of her favorite destinations anywhere, Texas Wine Country.
When people think about a region that is famous for its wine, Kathy Petrino is aware that Texas isn’t usually the first area they consider, but she wants everyone to know that the Lone Star State has done a lot to improve its reputation as a wine producer, and they have made it. Texas Hill Country has been growing some of the finest grapes in the country, if not the world. Dozens of Texas wineries are producing some of the best varietals outside of the West Coast in the United States, including many Tempranillos, Malbecs, and Cabernets. There are hundreds of state-of-the-art tasting rooms in which to enjoy them, and the area is big with music and wine events, including some combining great Texas barbecue brisket with country and rockabilly music, in addition to the great wines.

If you want to know why Kathy Petrino loves to write about her travels, it’s because she’s generous. She is intent on traveling to as many places as possible during her lifetime and she is passionate about that, but she is also passionate about wanting to share her experiences and to help others have as great a time as she has. She wants to see as many people as possible have as much fun as she does, so she writes about every aspect of her trips and about all of her favorite destinations. Knowing more makes for a better trip.
One destination Kathy Petrino loves to visit is New Orleans, Louisiana. When you refer to it by it’s name or by its initials, NOLA, or you call it by its nickname, “The Big Easy,” the image conjures up a lot of things, most of them good. For a city that has been knocked on its back a few times - most recently after Hurricane Katrina - there is a life to the city that can’t be denied. The city’s motto is “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” (“Let the good times roll!”) and it is that attitude toward life that infuses New Orleans with an attitude that is different from most.
The first thing most people notice is the incredible scrumptious French-inspired Creole and Cajun food, but there is also the sound of the place, between the live jazz and blues clubs and the myriad street performers, it’s hard to miss the music. That is why one of the best ways to take in the spirit of New Orleans is just to walk around the city and take in its three main neighborhoods. The Garden District is home to some of the largest and most ornate mansions in the city, as well as many of its trendiest bars and restaurants. Them you make your way to the Riverfront/Warehouse District, which has seen an amazing revitalization in the last few years. Old warehouses have been transformed into shops, art galleries, and trendy restaurants that you will want to meander through.
Of course, once you get through that area, you’ll come to the famous French Quarter, where old-style 18th century French homes with wrought-iron balconies dominate the area. There is something for everyone in the Franchise Quarter, including some of the greatest Cajun food in the city. Here you’ll find Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, beautiful homes, and bars blaring the best jazz anywhere.
